OFFICERS PRESENT: OTHERS PRESENT: Call to Order A motion to accept the minutes from our September 17th meeting was made and seconded. Motion Passed MEETING BUSINESS A short form was distributed for members to indicate their ideas concerning the issues chapter 961 should address regarding our association with the Southern Utah Veteran’s Alliance. Members were asked to prioritize the issues and pass this input in to the Chapter President. The idea here is for all the local area veteran groups to unite on main issues, and thus give more voice to our concerns. More and improved medical facilities for veterans in our area were briefly discussed. Representatives from Chapter 961 will be at the next Veteran’s Alliance meeting on October 28. President John asked if anyone knew how to set up a website. Craig Thomson said that he would check with an acquaintance of his who was an expert in this. He indicated that we could probably get this done without cost to the Chapter. Chapter 961 members were encouraged to support the 222nd at the “Walk for the 222” walk-a-thon on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Snow Canyon Parkway’s Tawa Pond. Anyone who participates should wear our Chapter shirt and a VVA hat. Registration forms, a map, and more info regarding this event may be obtained at: http://www.222walk.com. The president announced that a VVA chapter in Texas that was severely impacted by the recent Hurricane is asking for support in re-building their facilities. This generated a brief discussion regarding the lack of our own permanent place to meet. It was noted that there is a possibility of getting a room in the VFW building. This is being explored with the Veteran’s Alliance. In the meantime, Chapter 961 recognizes – and deeply appreciates – the use of the Elks Lodge facilities. Bruce Raftery volunteered to look into the possibility of listing a telephone number for VVA Chapter 961 in the local phone book. This would serve as a contact point for anyone looking for information concerning VVA. Vice Pres. Mike Gale volunteered his home phone number for this purpose if we were unable to set up a separate listing. It was noted that the email address for Chapter 961 is: suvva961@att.net. Larry Magee suggested that we participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program. The general membership expressed an interest in this, so he volunteered to look in to it. Bruce Raftery reported on his efforts in procuring a spot in the Veterans’ Day Parade. Line-up begins at 8:30 with the parade starting at 9:00 a.m. Members were advised to meet at the VFW Building at 8:15 a.m. and Bruce will be there to show us our assigned spot. Craig Thomson volunteered to purchase another Chapter 961 banner for the parade. Craig will also check on getting a “deuce and a half” for the parade. President John reported that there will be a “Welcome Home Veterans” activity in Las Vegas on Veterans’ Day. This will include, among several other things, an air show. Those Chapter 961 members who are planning to attend this event were encouraged to wear their chapter shirt, along with a VVA hat. Also, the local Golden Coral is offering a free dinner for all veterans on November 11th. Members should also wear their chapter shirts and hats for this occasion. Bob Prinselarr invited all Chapter 961 Members to his wedding at Shepherd Of The Hills Methodist Church on Tonaquint Drive. Next Meeting There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 1130 hours. Respectfully submitted,
Ronnie Vause, Secretary EMAIL:
