Discussion Items
President Clark informed us that even though our original paperwork for the chapter was lost, it eventually turned up and we were assigned chapter #960. It was then discovered that that number was taken and we were assigned chapter #961.

President Clark also stated that we need DD214’s from EVERYONE in order to have our paperwork finalized. A copy of these will be kept at the local level.

John led a discussion on whether we should consider a “uniform” shirt to wear at functions, such as 4th of July celebrations or where veterans are being honored etc. A task force will likely be set up to address this.

The V V A National convention is in Reno Nevada in August. Take a copy of your DD214 and a copy of our chapter financial if you are going. We don’t have delegates from Utah since there is not a state organization at this time.

It was discussed as a possibility, that the national organization would adopt a changing of the name and/or include other than Vietnam Vets as members was big. This was followed by a lengthy discussion with many viewpoints, such as don’t change the name just the criteria, to don’t change anything. It was suggested that the VFW is a place for Vets that have served in a war but not Vietnam. Someone mentioned that since the military is such a small percentage of the population that having more than Viet Vets as members could be an advantage. It was also discussed that bringing all the Vet groups together (VFW, Retired Officers Association, American Legion etc.) to maximize our clout and to be available to all Vets as support groups was a good idea.

President John said that elections will likely be held as soon as we receive the charter for our chapter. Then again in April and in April every year. A motion to have the current Board of Directors continue to serve including Terry Dunne, David Estrovitz, Bruce Bissell and George Strutzel as Directors at Large, until elections can be held, was seconded and Passed. (This was after George Strutzel read a paragraph as to what the Board is supposed to do.)

Vice President Mike Gale read a thank you note from George Strutzel for the flowers sent by the chapter to his Mother’s wake. V.P. Mike then read an email from a life member that resigned due to his feelings about forwarded emails that included perceived references to religious practices. It was suggested that if you don’t want to be on Mike’s email list let him know. Mike said he did not intend to offend anyone. (This was a forwarded email from a V V A member at the national level.)

President Steven from the St. George VFW gave all of us a certificate of thanks for serving in Vietnam . He got a round of applause and a big thank you.

It was mentioned that Military Appreciation Day will be held at the county fair on August 11 and all Vets will be honored. It was also suggested that we look into getting a booth at the fair since it is well attended and we could reach some that don’t know about us.

Next Meeting
Next meeting will be held on July 16, 2005 at 1000 hours at the Dixie Elk’s Lodge #1743 in St. George, Utah.

Adjourn
There being no further business President Clark asked for a vote to adjourn at 1135 hours.

Respectfully submitted,

.
