Meeting Minutes

September 17, 2005

 

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by President, John Clark who led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence was observed for our fallen comrades.

A motion to accept the minutes from our August 20th meeting was made and seconded.  Motion Passed

MEETING BUSINESS
The treasurer presented the Financial Report; motion to accept PASSED

The P.R. committee reported that an article was in the Spectrum on 9/16/2005.

Member Michael Hurley reported that the head of the Orthopedic dept at a Salt Lake hospital will be present at our next meeting.

Membership was discussed, specifically recruiting. Recruiting for new members is a priority. We need posters, notifications in the newspaper(s) etc.

The proposal to have other than Vietnam Vets belong to Vietnam Veterans of America was not addressed at the national convention.

A motion was made to have an Associate Vietnam Veteran Member become a member of our Board of Directors PASSED after some discussion.

Committees:
Bruce Bissell and George Strutzel will head up Membership Affairs. Danny Greathouse volunteered to be a member that committee.
Vincent Hall volunteered to be on the Veterans Benefits committee as did as Chuck Andrews.
Employment/Training, Bob Hansberry will head up this committee.
Bruce Raftery will head up Public Affairs.
Treasurer Jay Kemple will chair Finance, Bob Hansberry and Craig Thomson will also be on Finance.
Ronnie Vause will serve on Government Affairs.

Gary Wallen will speak at Veterans Day event on November 11.

A discussion was held on the Finance Committee soliciting things like flags, POW/MIA flags, and other items needed and ways to solicit those items as well as the numerous sources. Many agreed to help with this.

It was agreed that the P.R. committee should put an article in the paper seeking Women Members for VVA-Utah Chapter #961.

Vice President Mike Gale reported on the booth and float the chapter had at Peach Days in Hurricane. It was agreed that it went well and a certificate was presented from “Peach Days” to us for our fine performance.

President John and Vice President Mike and others went to Salt Lake City and met with the secretary of Veterans Affairs.

At this time the secretary had to leave and the treasurer took over.

Next Meeting
Next meeting will be held on October 15, 2005 at 1000 hours at the Dixie Elk’s Lodge #1743 in St. George, Utah.
